AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Woodwinds and Brass

Letter of good standing from the high school director

You must be able to read music proficiently!

Major Scale & arpeggios: C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, Gb, B, E, A, and D
(Two or three octaves when possible)

Minor Scales: C Harmonic and A Melodic (and corresponding arpeggios)
-
Chromatic Scale: Practical range of the instrument.

Prepared Material: Etude or Solo Grade 3 or higher (All state etudes accepted)

Sight-reading

Rudiments and melodic proficiency

Any of the percussive Arts Society's 40 Essential Rudiments as requested.

Sight-reading- Students should demonstrate the ability to sight-read a piece of music with great success, while mastering dynamics, tempo, stylistic, and other nuances.

Students should produce a characteristic tone on his or her instrument, in all ranges of the instrument. Students should demonstrate proper phrasing and stylistic nuances when performing etude, scales, and sight-reading. All scales should be tongued, using 8th notes at M.M. = 120 beats per minute.
